TEHRAN, Apr. 04 (Press Shia) – Foreign Minister Zarif said US’s lack of commitment under the nuclear deal was not surprising, adding the mechanism of the deal was determined based on mutual distrust between the two sides.

Speaking to officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif highlighted the need for more efforts for the implementation of the Iran’s nuclear deal, dubbed JCPOA.

“The reversibility mechanism for us in regard to the nuclear deal is far easier to achieve than the reversibility of sanctions by the other side,” Zarif said, adding “if there comes a time the Americans decide not to comply with their end of the deal, we will go back to our nuclear activities even more adamantly than before.”

Zarif went on to add, “this is indicative of mutual distrust and what we have predicted from the very beginning.”

“We have enough guarantee to go back to pre-JCPOA conditions if the Iranian establishment decides that the US has been too lax on its commitments under the nuclear deal,” Zarif said, adding “although I think it unlikely that this would actually happen.”

The Iranian top diplomat then discussed the priorities of the Foreign Ministry in the New Year, adding “our priority is a secure region. Our own country is secure thanks to the efforts of security and military forces, which are actually very costly too. But we seek security in every single country due to our own national interests. Today, security is a national necessity.”

Zarif then concluded his address by touching upon the topics on exports and imports, adding “we need to increase imports in science and technology, investment, and tourism. For the exports, we need to set our eyes on non-oil products, technical and engineering services and specialized workforce.”
