Press Shia – In a meeting with senior Hungarian officials in Qom, Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi said, “Daesh is neither a government nor Islamic and all Muslim scholars agree that such terrorist groups have nothing to do with Islam.”

Press Shia Agency – On Monday, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem-Shirazi cleric met with a group of senior Hungarian officials, including Zsolt Semjén, the Deputy Prime Minister, János Latorcai, the Deputy Speaker and Sa’id Sayyed Agha Banihashemi, the Iranian Ambassador to Hungary and stated, “We have a very good impression of Hungary and there aren’t any dark spots on our records and our countries have maintained good relations throughout years.”

The revered source of emulation said, “Due to the development of international communications, today the world has become a village. We’re all residents of this global village and we need to unite in our resolve to tackle the current global issues and to help our society to prosper since such joint measures affect the destiny of all of us. Otherwise, if one seeks hostility and discord among nations, the end result would be nothing but chaos and destruction worldwide.”

He said during his visit to Iran in November 2016, László Kövér, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary stressed that “terrorism has become an unsolvable problem for Europe” and added, “But we believe there are no such things as unsolvable issues. In order to resolve this problem once and forever, there are some necessary steps that need to be taken.”

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi continued, saying, “First, we must uproot the underlying doctrine of the Takfiri ideology, then engage in political negotiations and finally confront the terrorists on the battlefields. If these three major steps are realized correctly, the issue of terrorism will be resolved.”

The Iranian cleric referred to the “International Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the View of Islamic Scholars” held in November 2014 and the “International Congress on the Threat of Takfirist Movements in the Contemporary World” held in January 2016 and said, “We’ve held two international conferences on Takfiri threats in the city of Qom during recent years in which eighty prominent figures from different countries took part. In the final statements of both these conferences, all participants came to an agreement that terrorism has no place in Islam.”

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi further noted, “It’s regrettable that the Americans have introduced themselves as fighting against terrorism but Daesh considers themselves as an Islamic government. However, Daesh is neither a government nor Islamic and all Muslim scholars agree that such terrorist groups have nothing to do with Islam.”

The revered source of emulation stressed that Daesh terrorists pose a major threat to the whole world, not just Islamic nations and added, “Therefore, all countries must unite and join hands in order to tackle this issue and uproot the Takfiri ideology.”

He stated, “Unfortunately, sometimes political issues lead others to associate this group with Islam but Islam is a religion of mercy, compassion and stresses upon coexistence with all religions.”

“For this reason, we shouldn’t be disappointed over solving the problem of terrorism. If some governments didn’t cooperate with them, they would have been eradicated by now,” he stressed.

Ayatollah Makarem-Shirazi stated, “Unfortunately, political issues have led to Islamophobic remarks in foreign media outlets and they also say that Iran is a supporter of terrorism, while our country is at the forefront of the fight against terrorist groups.”
