TEHRAN, Apr. 05 (Press Shia) – Central Bank Governor Valiollah Seif said the Luxembourg court has not issued any ruling to confiscate Iran’s blocked assets.
“The $1.6 billion worth of Iranian assets will be kept frozen since the Luxembourg court made a decision on the blocked properties,” Seif told reporters on the sidelines of cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.
The judge confirmed to reconsider the case until a ruling was delivered on Iran’s frozen assets, Seif added ensuring that there were some legal arguments that “may influence the court’s decision.”
The decision on the freezing of more than $1.6 billion of CBI assets at Clearance securities depository in Luxembourg came following a bid by the US claiming compensation from Iran for the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks and their families, claiming that Tehran had assisted al-Qaeda in the attack. Tehran refused to pay the requested damages as it rejects the accusation.
