TEHRAN, May 09 (Press Shia) – Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi stressed that kind and tactful encounters have raised the popularity appeal of intelligence services among the Iranian people.

“Iran’s intelligence officers, known as unknown soldiers of Imam Zaman, have all enemies under constant surveillance, and today we are in a situation where the Ministry of Intelligence has perfect dominance over the enemy and monitors even their slightest move,” Mahmoud Alavi said on Tuesday.

He went on to add, “in 2016, over 30 terrorist cells planning to carry out terrorist attacks in the country were identified and destroyed. In 2015 and 2014, 45 terrorist cells were busted, and 108 magnetic bombs, 15 explosive vests, and dozens of roadside bombs were confiscated from them. A division-promoting team was also discovered and destroyed in Alborz province who were planning to disrupt the country’s atmosphere during the presidential elections.”

Alavi stressed that the presence of people on the scene is one major factor for providing national security; “the might and power of a country relies, more than anything, on its people’s support to its political atmosphere,” he added.

The Iranian minister then talked about the security issues of various Telegram channels in cyberspace, saying the Intelligence Ministry’s attitude toward political and social activists is based on ‘protection’ and ‘guidance’.

“Hostile treatment towards the enemy is good, but we do not always need it in relation to the country’s academic and economic activists, producers and artists,” he said.

“Intelligence services accompanied by ethics will bring about psychological security and dignity of society, and the impact of this is no less than a physical security,” he said.
