TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili hailed the country’s recent achievements in the area of air defense as “eye-catching” and said new advanced systems have joined the Islamic Republic’s air defense network.

“The Air Defense has made eye-catching achievements in the area of detection and surveillance radars as well as electronic eavesdropping equipment and Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems,” Brigadier General Esmaili said in a speech on Tuesday.

The deployment of numerous air defense systems have made it possible for the country to constantly and strictly monitor its airspace, the commander added.

New missile systems have also entered service in the country’s air defense after successful test-firing, he went on to say.

In comments a couple of months ago, the commander had announced that Iran’s Air Defense has such advanced gear that can detect and act against threats well before they could approach the country’s airspace.

He also made it clear that his forces rely on homegrown systems and devise strategies with an eye to contemporary threats.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Tehran has always assured other nations that its military might poses no threat to regional countries and others, saying that the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
