TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iran’s Ambassador to Malaysia Marzieh Afkham said Tehran and Kuala Lumpur are working together to enhance cooperation in the education sector by introducing various programs to attract and encourage more students to pursue higher education in both countries.

“Currently, there are less than 4,000 Iranian students pursuing their tertiary studies at various universities in Malaysia. Many Iranian researchers are also based in your universities, at the same time, we offer Persian language course at Universiti Putra Malaysia,” Afkham said during a ceremony at the venue of Malaysia’s National Library (PNM) on Tuesday, Bernama news agency reported.

“Malaysians opt to study in Iran because our universities’ ranking is getting better,” she added.

Meanwhile, Datuk Nafisah Ahmad, the director general of PNM said there are about 622 items related to Iran in the library’s collection comprising books, serials, journal articles, video and maps.

“These items have been acquired through purchases and gift exchange programs with the National Library of Iran and other agencies,” she said.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who visited Malaysia during a tour of Southeast Asia in October in 2015, said at the time that Tehran and Kuala Lumpur are resolved to restore their bilateral relations to pre-sanctions levels.
