TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said military plans were ready to launch an operation to retake Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists’ last haven in the Arab country’s northern province of Nineveh.
A “special plan” has been laid down for the liberation of the town of Tal Afar, located 63 kilometers west of Mosul in Nineveh province, from the Daesh terror group, al-Abadi said during his weekly press briefing, Iraqi News reported.
“We will not exclude foreign terrorists detained by our security forces from the law,” he added.
Abadi formally declared victory over the Takfiri terrorist group in Mosul earlier this month after the country’s military and Popular Mobilization Forces took full control of the northern city.
Iraqi army soldiers and volunteer fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units had made sweeping gains against Daesh since launching the Mosul operation on October 17, 2016.
The Iraqi forces took control of eastern Mosul in January after 100 days of fighting, and launched the battle in the west on February 19.
