TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The forces of the Yemeni army and Popular Committees, in a retaliatory attack against the Saudi-led coalition, pounded King Fahad Air Base in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern city of Ta’if with homegrown ballistic missiles.
The missile unit of the Yemeni army and the Popular Committees on Thursday evening fired a number of medium-range ballistic missiles dubbed “Borkan-1” (Volcano-1) at King Fahad Airbase, the Arabic-language al-Ahed news website reported.
The solid propellant and Scud-type Borkan-1 missile reportedly has a range of more than 800 kilometers.
A Yemeni military source confirmed the report and said the missiles hit the Saudi targets accurately and inflicted heavy damages on the airbase.
The missile unit also fired a Qaher-1 missile at the positions of Saudi mercenaries in Mawza district of Taiz, in the southwestern parts of the Arabian Peninsula country.
Since March 25, 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Over 12,000 Yemenis, including thousands of women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.
