TEHRAN, Oct. 09 (Press Shia Agency) – A research group working on nano-delivery of drugs has devised a smart delivery system which incorporates nano-structured system to treatment process.
Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Owji the head of the research group, entitled Phytoliposome-Based Smart Nanodelivery System of Two Herbal Medications, provided some insights into the mechanizations and advantages of the delivery system which has highly biodegradable; “the whole system is infinitely small, of 40-60nm; it incorporates hepatocarcinoma monoclonal antibody HAb18 marker,” he added, providing some technical jargon about the workings of the system. “This system is three times more efficient in targeting hepatocarcinoma than normal drug delivery system, and 35 times more so than any other freely administered medication; the system has been patented in the US as well; the system prevents entry of viri and bacteria into hepatic cells, and thus helps treat the cancer.”
“The system would provide valuable possibilities to diagnose other carcinogenic and infectious tissues; it improves the durability of medication in the body and contributes to the efficacy of the drug smartly delivered to the cells,” said the head of the research group, “the exact mechanism is that it encapsulates herbal medication inside a nanostructured liposome with monoclonal antibody marker; the method only targets hepatocellular carcinoma and thus would control cancer.”
Owji also added that the laboratory tests had been successful and the drug system was in line for commercialization through receiving necessary permits from health authorities.
