TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Danger of Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) terrorist group's attacks in Europe has increased in the past two years and the Barcelona tragedy can happen everywhere in Europe, a senior Austrian military figure warned.

Speaking to Press Shia about possibility of Daesh terrorist attacks in Europe, Brigade General Walter Feichtinger, the head of the Institute for Peace Support and Conflict Management, based at the National Defence Academy in Vienna, Austria, said the threat was growing during the past  two years.

He then reminded the demand raised by the terrorist organization in which it has asked supporters to use any means to conduct attacks from their home countries instead of coming to Syria or Iraq.

As regards the reasons behind Daesh’s change in strategy, he said, “After the terrorist organization's failures in Syria and Iraq, the decision is a signal of survival to attract further supporters and advocates.”

“Simultaneously, the terrorist organization is seeking to intimidate Western societies and governments to prevent them from joining the ongoing campaign against Daesh in Syria and Iraq.”

He then pointed to measures to confront Daesh, and said, “Clearly, Daesh terrorism is a global problem and needs a comprehensive global response.”

He underlined that if such issues in the Middle East and North Africa are not resolved, they will effect Europe.

The official then called for international action for cutting the terrorist groups’ financial resources and annihilation of their ideological leadership.

Daesh has recently committed several attacks in the European countries including Germany, France and Spain. Spain saw one of its most violent days in recent memory and 13 people died and dozens were hurt when a van hit crowds on Las Ramblas, Barcelona on August 18.
