TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Syria’s army and its allies continued to make gains in their fight against Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists in Homs, managing to retake a key district in the eastern edges of the central province.
A military source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told SANA that army units on Friday continued their military operations in the eastern countryside of Homs, establishing control over an area north of Mannnoukh village on the outskirts of Jebb al-Jarrah area.
The recapture of the area came after a large number of Daesh militants were either killed or injured.
In a separate development, Syrian and Russian warplanes carried out intensive airstrikes against the gathering centers of the terror group in the areas of al-Thurdeh, al-Rishdiyeh, al-Bugheilieh and Ayyash in Deir ez-Zor, inflicting heavy losses upon them in the eastern province.
Additionally, army units established control over the villages of Salba, Rasm al-Mazare’, Zanouba, Tweina, Hesso, Mkeimen Shamali, Mkeimen Janoubi, Tibet Dkeij and Jeb al-Abyad in the eastern countryside of Salamiya area in Hama province.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
