TEHRAN (Press Shia) – A senior member of the Syrian parliament praised the Arab country’s recent victories over foreign-backed terrorist groups and said the alliance of “warmongers” against the Damascus government has failed to reach its strategic goals.
Speaking to the Press Shia News Agency, Khaled al-Aboud pointed to the silence of certain Western and Arab states, the US in particular, over the recent victories of the Syrian army and its allied forces against terrorists and said, “The strategic goals of the alliance of aggressors have now failed (to materialize).”
He further emphasized the Axis of Resistance has reached many achievements against the terrorists’ excessive violence in Syria.
“…We believe that the foundations of the coalition of aggressors have collapsed and the warmongers have been split and divided,” the Syrian lawmaker said.
For example, he added, the alliance of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey against Damascus has become history.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of Syria and supports its legitimate government in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
