TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned a recent deadly terrorist attack by the Daesh Takfiri group in northern Baghdad, Iraq.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi slammed the Saturday terrorist attack that killed more than 35 civilians in northern Baghdad, expressing his sympathy with the government and nation of Iraq and also offered his condolences to bereaved families of the victims.

The Islamic Republic of Iran will stand by the Iraqi government and nation until the complete defeat of terrorists, he stressed, calling for a concerted global action against terrorism and Takfiri terrorists.

He further expressed the hope that this “disgusting phenomenon” would be uprooted in the region in light of unity and integration among Iraqi people as well as regional states.

Suicide bombing targeting a funeral gathering in northern Baghdad Saturday killed at least 35 people and left another 63 wounded, Iraqi police and hospital officials said.

The attack in the Shaab neighborhood occurred at around lunchtime, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack comes as Iraqi security forces are preparing for an operation to retake the militant-held northern city of Mosul, the country's second largest city, from the Daesh terrorist group.
