TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reiterated the country’s policy to promote peace across the world and said the Islamic Republic has proven that it is willing to resolve regional and international problems through dialogue and negotiation.
"The Iranian people want to have very good relations with other countries around the world and are seeking to develop their country based on these good and constructive cooperation," Rouhani said, addressing a gathering of the American foreign policy elites in New York, the official website of the president reported on Tuesday.
"During the 4-year term of the previous administration, we proved to the world that we are willing to settle regional and international issues through diplomacy and negotiation," he noted.
President Rouhani further emphasized that current crises in the Middle East region and other parts of the world can be resolved “only through democracy, people's vote and the negotiation table, not intimidation, war and sanction”.
He also pointed to the new US administration’s policies against the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and said undermining the deal tent amounts to undermining the international community, the United Nations Security Council as well as diplomacy and dialogue.
Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and started to implement it in January 2016.
Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
The US has even imposed many fresh sanctions against Iran, in flagrant defiance of the JCPOA.
