TEHRAN (Press Shia) – A top adviser to the chairman of the Supreme Council of Libyan Tribes and Cities slammed the Saudi-led coalition for its continued attacks against civilians in Yemen, saying the Riyadh regime should be put on trial for committing war crimes in the Arabian Peninsula country.
Speaking to the Press Shia News Agency, Khaled al-Ghawil said the Saudi regime’s crimes in Yemen which are committed with the support of the US are classified as “the mass destruction of human beings”.
Ghawil, who is also an international lawyer, further described the Saudi war on Yemen as part of a Wahhabi-Zionist plot and said international lawyers should take action to decry and shed light on the plot.
“Definitely, the criminal Saudi regime supports any move in favor of the Zionist plot,” he said, adding that therefore Saudi Arabia should be tried and the Arab League also should face trial for its silence over the Kingdom’s crimes.
On October 8, Saudi-led warplanes targeted a crowded funeral ceremony in Sana’a, killing over 140 people and injuring more than 600 others.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
According to UN estimates, over 10,000 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the military campaign.
