TEHRAN (Press Shia) – An Iranian vice president attributed the United States’ furious attempts to mount pressure on Iran to the Islamic Republic’s powerful influence in the region.
Addressing the new school year opening ceremony in the northern city of Rasht on Saturday, Iranian vice president and spokesman for the administration, Mohammad Baqer Nobakht, lashed out at US President Donald Trump for his hostile comments about Iran at his UN speech.
The US push for imposing sanctions on Iran results from the Islamic Republic’s influence on regional countries, Nobakht added.
He further described the security of a country as a domestic issue that would be gained by reliance on the people alone, stressing that security, unlike economic or scientific power, could never be obtained through foreign capacities.
In comments in February, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the country gets its immunity to threats from the strong popular support for the Islamic Revolution.
“People have been always the greatest support for the Islamic Revolution, and it is because of their presence that nobody could ever threaten Iran and Iranians,” Zarif said at a meeting with foreign ambassadors to Iran and representatives of foreign organizations back then.
He also voiced the Islamic Revolution’s support for regional and international peace, security, stability and development, saying Iran extends a hand of friendship and cooperation to anyone that is open to mutual respect.
