TEHRAN, Sep. 24 (Press Shia) – Despite oppositions from Iraq neighbors and UN security council Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) head Massoud Barzani says the independence referendum will be held tomorrow.
Iraq’s Kurds will go ahead with a referendum on independence on Monday, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) head Massoud Barzani told a news conference, reported Reuters.
According to Reuters, Iraq’s Kurds will seek talks with the Iraqi central government to implement the expected ‘yes’ outcome of the referendum, even if they take two years or more, he said.
“We will never go back to the failed partnership” with Baghdad, he said
Trying to tackle Iran and Turkey concerns, Barzani said the region, committing to respecting the laws on international boundaries” and not seek to redraw region’s borders.
Israeli regime is the only supporter of Barzani’s planed independence referendum. Many experts believe the US stated and actual policy on Erbil independence referendum is incongruent and those in favour of creating an Independent Kurdish state count on US support via Israel.
