TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The Iranian naval forces saved one of the country’s trade vessels from successive pirate attacks in the Gulf of Aden on Monday.
The Navy's 44th flotilla of warships, which is in the Gulf of Aden for an overseas mission, saved the trade vessel when pirates, mainly coming from Somalia, tried to hijack it on Monday morning.
Following the incident, the pirates returned and launched two other attacks with more men and heavier weapons on board 8 and 13 boats respectively, both in vain.
The timely presence of the naval flotilla forced the pirates to flee the zone, some 50 miles south of the Yemeni city of Aden.
The 44th flotilla, comprising Alvand destroyer and Bushehr logistic warship, set sail for the Gulf of Aden and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in mid-October to protect the Iranian trade vessels against piracy in the unsafe zone.
