TEHRAN, Sep. 26 (Press Shia) – Speaking at ITU conference in South Korea, Iranian ICT Minister Azari Jahromi said the initial execution of using Internet of Things (IoT) for intelligent water management has shown a 50% drop in water consumption.
Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi addressed the ICT ministers of ITU member states at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom World 2017 conference which opened on Monday in Busan, South Korea.
“The future of our planet, our environment, and life styles rely on the use of ICT for achieving sustainable development,” Jahromi said at the conference.
He went on to add, “in Iran, over 90 per cent of water resources are used up for agriculture. Many people in rural and distant areas rely on agriculture for earning a living, therefore introducing an effective method for reducing water consumption is highly necessary.”
“We have to use Internet of Things and artificial intelligence to introduce intelligent automatic irrigation systems,” the ICT minister said, adding “the initial execution of our projects have shown that we can reduce water consumption by 50 per cent through the application of IoT.”
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom World 2017 conference opened Monday with an urgent call for connecting the 3.9 billion people who lack ICT access in the world.
This year’s ITU Telecom World under the theme “Smart Digital Transformation, Global Opportunities” is taking place in Busan, South Korea, from 25-28 September. Over 320 prominent ICT companies and telecom operators are taking part in the event.
