TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – A large group of Daesh (ISIL) terrorists were killed and injured on Wednesday after Syrian forces targeted their positions in southeast of Deir ez-Zor province.

Syria's warplanes and artillery command unit hit the gathering centers of Daesh terrorists in the areas of Hweijet al-Saker, al-Husseinia, al-Hweiqa, al-Arddi, Khassarat and Kanamat in Deir ez-Zor, where heavy losses were inflicted upon the terrorists in the eastern province, SANA news agency reported.

In a separate development in the province, Daesh militants kidnapped members of five families and burned their cars near al-Kasra town in the northwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor when they attempted to escape the areas.

The latest developments came after Syrian government troops crossed to the eastern bank of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor City for the first time since they broke a siege on parts of the eastern city earlier this month.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
