DAMASCUS (Press Shia) – The Syrian army backed by allied forces have managed to advance in rebel-held areas southwest of the strategic city of Aleppo, military sources said on Tuesday.

According to Press Shia dispatches, a military source said forces of the Syrian Republican Guard recaptured Salaheddin neighborhood in southwestern Aleppo as other army troops advanced in al-Sayyid frontline.

He also said that currently, the army forces have focused their efforts on a neighborhood northeast of Aleppo to deal a final blow to the foreign-backed terrorists in the city.

The source went on to say that the buildings of the 1070 housing development project in Aleppo are expected to be liberated by the Syrian troops within the next few hours.

Syrian forces are busy fighting to recapture the northern city of Aleppo from terrorists. The security forces encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
