TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – A naval flotilla from the Azerbaijan Republic docked at Iran’s northern port city of Bandar Anzali to make a friendly visit for the first time in the history of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
Azerbaijan’s peace and friendship naval fleet, which consists a Stenka-class G124 patrol boat under the command of Subhan Bakirov, the lieutenant commander of the Azerbaijani Navy, berthed at Anzali late on Thursday.
The flotilla plans to pay a three-day visit to the Islamic Republic in a bid to strengthen cooperation between the Caspian Sea littoral states.
During their trip, the Azeri naval forces are slated to meet with local Iranian officials and pay tribute to the Islamic Republic’s martyrs.
Russia and Kazakhstan have already dispatched five and one peace and friendship fleets, respectively, to Bandar Anzali as part of efforts to boost international cooperation among the Caspian Sea’s littoral states.
The Iranian Navy has also sent five flotillas to the sea’s littoral states to convey the Islamic Republic’s message of peace and friendship and to promote security in the region.
