TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Wednesday named three caretakers to lead the country’s ministries of culture and Islamic guidance, sports and youth affairs, and education.
In separate decrees on Wednesday, President Rouhani appointed Seyed Abbas Salehi, Nasrollah Sajjadi and Seyed Mohammad Bathaei as the acting ministers of culture, sports and education, respectively.
The appointments came after Ali Jannati, Mahmoud Goudarzi, and Ali Asghar Fani tendered their resignations after serving as minsters for over three years.
Jannati was chosen the culture minister in 2013 after he won the parliament’s confidence vote with 234 votes in favor, 36 against and 12 abstentions.
Goudarzi won the Iranian parliament’s vote of confidence in November that year as President Hassan Rouhani’s fourth nominee for the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs after securing 199 votes out of the total 267 votes cast. Some 44 lawmakers voted against him and 24 others abstained.
Fani took the office as acting minister on 23 August 2013 after parliament rejected nominated Mohammad-Ali Najafi for the post. He was officially nominated for the post by President Hassan Rouhani and was voted for by the parliament. He previously served as acting minister in 2005.
