Press Shia – The Association of Muslim Scholars of Lebanon offered their strong support for the liberation to liberate the Iraqi city of Mosul from the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group.

Press Shia Agency – In a statement, the administrative council of the Association of Muslim Scholars of Lebanon called for the election of Michel Aoun as the president of Lebanon and said, “We are hopeful that this election returns Lebanon to a state of calmness and the absence of any religious or sectarian sedition.”

Aoun, the founder of the Free Patriotic Movement, is an ally of the Lebanese Islamic Resistance movement, Hezbollah.

The Association said that anyone who takes advantage of the current situations to incite sectarian or ideological sedition serves the interests of Lebanon’s enemies and the Zionist regime.

“All sides must agree to the opportunity to revive the constitutional life of this country by accepting the adoption of a new electoral law in regard to the election of a president,” they stated.

Lebanon has been without a head of state since 2014, when the term of President Michel Sulayman expired.

Liberation of Mosul

The Association of Muslim Scholars welcomed the start of the operation to liberate the Daesh-occupied Iraqi city of Mosul and said that Iraq is fearlessly fighting a war against terrorism on the basis of its Islamic religious duty and added that this operation is a divine mission.

“Daesh terrorists must not be able to reach a safe haven but rather this cancerous tumour must be eradicated completely because there is no cure except for its destruction,” he said.

Importance of the Palestinian cause

The group of Sunni and Shi’ah clerics stressed the need to provide full support the Palestinian people and stressed that we should not be negligent over what has occurred in Palestine.

They explained that Zionist settlers have been storming the al-Aqsa Mosque on a daily basis and aim to take over the mosque by taking advantage of the preoccupation of the Arab and Islamic worlds in regard to the wars in Iraq, Yemen and Syria.

“We must stand against this aggression and the [various] Palestinian resistance groups must continue their struggle in a united manner,” they stressed.

Saudi war on Yemen

The Association of Muslim Scholars also stressed the need to reach a lasting and comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen and open the country’s border crossings in order to facilitate the delivery of medical and food aid to the Yemeni people and to bring the various sides to the negotiating table.

“Yemen must have sovereignty over its territory and the people must have the freedom to decide their own destiny without the interference of any external forces,” they emphasized.
