DAMASCUS (Press Shia) – Syrian army, backed by volunteer forces, managed to arrive at the gates of Douma, gearing up for a major offensive to liberate the city from the clutches of Takfiri terrorists.
According to Press Shia dispatches, the Syrian forces have closed in on the Saudi-back terrorists in the city of Douma from different directions.
The Syrian troops and their allies plan to purge the city, situated about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) northeast of Damascus, of the terrorists nearly four years after it fell under the control of the terrorist group Jaish al-Islam.
The latest developments come as reports suggest that major Takfiri groups fighting in Syria are fractured more than anytime as they are struggling to close ranks in the face of army advances on various fronts. Ringleaders of Jaish al-Islam are on high alert but have so far failed to forge a united front against the Syrian troops.
The rift between them is getting deeper as the army has made major advances in its military campaign against the militants, retaking several villages in the Eastern Ghouta region of Damascus.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
