TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The Daesh (ISIL) terrorist group has recaptured major parts of al-Bukamal, an eastern town in Deir ez-Zor province on the border with Iraq, a report said.
Media reports coming out of Syria on Saturday said that the terror group has managed to retake some parts of al-Bukamal, two days after the Syrian army announced its full liberation.
Rami Abdulrahman, head of the UK-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group, told Al Jazeera that Daesh has captured some 60 percent of al-Bukamal.
Abdulrahman also said the center of al-Bukamal continues to witness fierce fighting between Daesh and the Syrian army and its allies.
The Syrian army and its allied fighters have seized swathes of central and eastern Syria in advances against the terror group this year.
Syria has been gripped by foreign-backed militancy since March 2011. The Syrian government says the Israeli regime and its western and regional allies are aiding Takfiri terrorist groups wreaking havoc in the country.
