TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry dismissed a statement by the White House accusing Tehran of fueling instability in Yemen, saying the blatant support for Saudi Arabia’s military campaign against Yemen makes Washington an accomplice in the heinous crimes.
“The White House statement undoubtedly proves it clearly that the US has aided in and is accountable for the Saudi crimes against Yemen,” Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said on Saturday night.
His comments came after a White House press secretary issued a statement hailing the Saudi-led coalition for allowing the delivery of aid from a port and an airport to Yemen. It has also accused Iran of supplying missiles to Yemen and violating the UNSC resolutions.
In response, the spokesman reiterated that Iran has no military interaction with Yemen, stressing that the defense or missile capabilities of Yemen is quite an internal issue.
He also rejected the “bogus and false allegations” the White House statement has raised against Iran, slamming it as part of attempts to draw the world public attention away from the “inhumane crimes” committed by the Saudi-led coalition against people of Yemen.
Instead of calling on Riyadh to stop bombing civilians in Yemen, the US is flagrantly supporting the continued offensive on Yemenis, Qassemi deplored.
He also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to voicing support for the Yemeni nation in the international organizations.
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been launching deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
Since then, more than 10,000 people have been killed, millions forced from their homes, and the country facing severe famine and a deadly cholera outbreak.
And more recently, the Saudi blockade of Yemen has worsened the humanitarian crisis there, putting many lives at risk.
