TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps are duty bound to work together to serve the nation, the IRGC chief asserted.
In a meeting in Tehran on Wednesday, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari and Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi weighed plans for closer coordination between their forces to purse the country’s defense strategies and boost its military capabilities.
Stressing the need for the military forces to get involved in public service efforts, Major General Jafari pointed to the significant role that the IRGC and the Army played in providing disaster relief aid for the people in the western province of Kermanshah after a recent earthquake.
For his part, the Army chief hailed close interaction between the Army and the IRGC as a credit for Iran’s deterrent power.
Following a massive earthquake in western Iran on November 12, the IRGC and the Army units were deployed to the quake-hit areas and played a leading role in the rescue and relief operations.
The IRGC has promised to keep offering relief aid for the victims of the earthquake until they are provided with permanent housing.
Officials say the 7.3 magnitude earthquake has destroyed 11,000 rural houses and 4,500 urban dwellings in Kermanshah province.
