TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry rebuked the US secretary of state for his bogus allegations against the Islamic Republic, saying that repeating such lies would not help Washington make up for the “strategic mistakes” in its policies toward Iran and the Middle East.

In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi denounced US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s recent comments against Iran as futile insistence on repeating false allegations against Tehran.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the EU foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, in Brussels on Tuesday, Tillerson accused Iran of posing a threat to the region by interfering in other countries, saying Tehran’s behavior must be challenged.

“Rehashing of the baseless accusations and lies will not help the US make up for the strategic and major mistakes in dealing with Iran and the region in recent decades,” Qassemi said in response, taking a swipe at the US government for adopting aggressive policies in the region.

He also recommended that Tillerson take into account the realities and history of the region and the US policies that have resulted in “severe crises and the killing of hundreds of thousands of women, children and other innocent people” before making any comment.

Iran is itself a victim of US interfering policies and support for a coup in 1953, the spokesman added, saying the world has acknowledged Iran as a country at the forefront of the war on terror.

Qassemi then denounced the US government’s inattention to Iran’s significant contributions to stability, peace and the fight against terrorism as a sign of Washington’s anger at Tehran’ leading role and the US support for terrorism in the Middle East.

He finally reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to keep making “constructive” and responsible efforts to ensure regional stability and security and fight against terrorism regardless of hostile attempts.
