DAMASCUS (Press Shia) – Syrian army troops backed by allied forces managed to further advance in rebel-held areas in Western Ghouta near Damascus, inflicting heavy casualties on the foreign-backed terrorists, military sources said.

According to Press Shia dispatches, sources in the battlefield said the Syrian forces have advanced in areas east of Khan al-Sheikh in Western Ghouta.

They also said the army troops have destroyed a tunnel dug by Takfiri terrorists with a length of 160 meters and a depth of 14 meters in Harasta, a city in the northeastern suburbs of Damascus.

In the northern city of Aleppo, six civilians were killed in attacks carried out by terrorists in Jamiat al-Zahra and al-Hamdaniya neighborhoods in the west of the city.

Syrian Army troops backed by allied forces are fighting to recapture Aleppo from foreign-backed terrorists.

They encircled Aleppo on July 17 after closing off the last terrorist-controlled route into the strategic city.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh, currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
