TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – The representative of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in Tehran warned against the consequences of Washington’s planned move to relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds (Jerusalem), saying the move will make Palestinians rise up against Zionists.

Speaking to the Press Shia Agency News Agency, Khaled Qadoumi described al-Quds as the redline of Muslims around the world and said the new decision taken by the US president to recognize al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime has ignored warnings from inside the US and unchanging principles of Palestinians.

“Unfortunately, the US is siding with the Zionist regime more than before,” he said, adding that Washington continues to send unwelcome messages to the Palestinian people by such decisions.

The spokesman further warned that such measures would deteriorate the situation and will create a crisis, adding that such actions by the US will definitely cause the Palestinian people to rise up against the Zionists.

The remarks came after Trump officially declared the disputed city of al-Quds Israel's capital, despite warnings from around the world that the measure risks triggering a fresh wave of violence in the Middle East.

In a speech at the White House on Wednesday, Trump said his administration would also begin a years-long process of moving the American embassy in Tel Aviv to the holy city.

The announcement was a major shift by Washington that overturns decades of US foreign policy.

Palestinian leaders had previously warned the move would threaten a two-state solution.

Israel has occupied East Jerusalem since the 1967 Middle East war. It annexed the area in 1980 and sees it as its exclusive domain. Under international law, the area is considered to be occupied territory.
