TEHRAN, Dec. 18 (Press Shia) – At a conference on foreign relations history in Tehran, Iranian foreign minister said on Monday that since the ancient times Iranians have been enjoying relations with governments and nations within a context of culture and civilization.
Speaking at the ‘First Conference on Foreign Relation History’ currently underway in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said that “Iran, as an ancient civilization, is a ‘history maker’ and it does matter to study the developments in international arena during the past 200 years and their effects in our today’s life.”
He continued “Iranians have been involved in communicating with governments and nations since the earliest times, and these (relations) have been in the context of civilian and cultural relations, and now continue within the context of diplomatic practices.”
“Our lives today depend on an accurate understanding of the past history, and we study the history of foreign relations in order to use it in our present time.” Zarif added.
Iran’s foreign minister stressed that “it should be noted that with studying history, we must not be stuck in the past and just be so proud of our glorious history, but studying history must be a remedy for our society and other societies’ wounds,” adding “history is for learning from our mistakes and for a better coexistence with others.”
