TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The US veto of the UN resolution on al-Quds (Jerusalem) was unacceptable, senior Palestinian authorities said after the UN Security Council voted on the a resolution calling for the withdrawal of Donald Trump’s recognition of the holy city as Israel’s capital.

In a reaction shortly after the vote, Nabil Abu Rudeina, a spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told reporters that the US veto of the UN resolution was "unacceptable and threatens the stability of the international community, because it disrespects it."

Abu Rudeina said the support for the resolution, which included US allies France, Italy and Japan, "showed the (American) isolation.”

“The international community must work now to protect the Palestinian people."

Also, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the American veto, and added that the United State's decision considers to be disrespectful to the international community.

"The United States choose not to be an honest mediator in the peace process." Abbas said, stressing that he is willing to demand a full membership in the United Nations.

Fourteen members of the 15-member council voted on Monday in favor of the Egyptian-drafted resolution, which did not specifically name the US or Trump but expressed “deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem”, while US Ambassador Nikki Haley wielded Washington’s veto against the call.

Egypt's Ambassador to the United Nations Amr Abul Ata affirmed in his speech that any decisions that aim to change the identity of Jerusalem should be considered void and must be reversed.
