TEHRAN, Dec. 20 (Press Shia) – Iran and Islamic Republic of Iran inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to dredge Astara Border River in order to prevent occurrence of flood.
Commander of Astara Border Guard Colonel Nozar Moradi made the remark and said, “Astarachay had created critical problems for frontiersmen in the recent months.”
Given the above issue, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed and sealed in Espinas Hotel of Astara by the border guards of the two countries.
Committee members of Iran Border Rivers had visited Astarachay River, he said, adding: “Dredging the river will be done at four points by the year end.”
Complete security of Astara Border Area is the outcome of amicable interaction between frontiersmen and border guards, he said, adding: “Preparedness and high potentials of frontiersmen in safeguarding borders is appreciable.”
It should be noted that Astarachay is originated from the heights of Heyran and Shenidan of Astara, running at Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan border as long as 38 km at large.”
Construction operation of a concrete-based wall of the river has 50 percent physical progress in order to prevent rage of water, he maintained.
As home to 91,000 people, Astara border city is located at the westernmost part of Gilan Province, neighboring Republic of Azerbaijan.
