Press Shia Agency – Bahraini scholars have warned about consequences of the government’s silence regarding the insults against Shi’ah sanctities by former MPs.

Press Shia Agency – According to Press Shia Agency News Agency, a group of Bahraini scholars issued a message strongly criticized a Bahraini member of parliament, Muhammad Khalid, for “insulting Shi’ah beliefs.”

“Insulting religious beliefs, sanctities and religious symbols has become one of the characteristics of dictatorship in Bahrain, and we today witness a member of parliament hideously insulting one of the most sacred beliefs and symbols which is the twelfth imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi using strongly abusive words, the message reads.

The Bahraini scholars held the Al Khalifah regime responsible for “the devastating developments in the country.”

The message goes on to say, “These issues are of tremendous sensitivity and nobody can keep them secret. The government’s silence regarding this insulting insurgency is condemned. We declare support for Ayatollah Sayyid Abdullah al-Qurayfi’s position in this regard.”

The Bahraini scholars also called for “putting the insulting member of parliament on trial” and “the severe punishment for this apparent crime,” and pointed out, “We have repeatedly said, and we are once again stressing that we will continue to promote Islamic unity in Bahrain and among the Islamic ummah, and we will defeat all of the seditious projects of the enemies of our nation because Bahrain will remain honourable thanks to the unity of Shi’ahs and Sunnis.”

During a speech last week, Muhammad Khalid, a former Bahraini parliamentarian explicitly supported the recent turmoil inside Iran and insulted Imam Khomeyni, Ayatollah Khamenei and the twelfth Shi’ah Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi.
