TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari and his Russian counterpart, Mikhail Bogdanov, held talks on a range of issues, including the latest developments in the region and the world.

Speaking at the meeting held in Moscow on Friday, Jaberi Ansari hailed the growing ties between Iran and Russia and said the pace of regional and global developments necessitates close diplomatic consultations between the two countries.

The Iranian diplomat further pointed to latest developments in regional countries, including Iraq, Libya, Palestine, Syria and Yemen and called for serious dialogue to resolve regional crises, Yemen in particular.

Bogdanov, for his part, highlighted the importance of the upcoming congress for Syrian-Syrian talks due to be held in Russia’s Sochi later this month and said Tehran and Moscow have close cooperation to hold the congress.

Jaberi Ansari started his trip to Russia on Friday to take part in trilateral talks between Tehran, Moscow, and Ankara about the peace process in Syria.

On November 19, Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorists were flushed out of their last stronghold in Syria’s Al-Bukamal. The city’s liberation marked an end to the group’s self-proclaimed caliphate it had declared in 2014.

On November 22, the presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey held talks on the Arab country’s crisis in Sochi, coming up with a plan for a national congress for peace in Syria.

The congress is expected to be held in Sochi on January 29 and 30.
