TEHRAN, Nov. 12 (Press Shia) – During the 18th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED) in South Korea, Mohammdreza Tabesh was elected as the Secretary General for the next two years.

The 18th General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED) was held in Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday and Friday, where lawmakers from a number of countries including Iran, gathered together to confer on environmental issues and ways to lay down new environmentally correct ground rules to protect the earth’s resources far into the future.

At the conference, Tehran was chosen to host the next APPCED in 2018, and Mohammadreza Tabesh, head of Iranian Parliament’s fraction on environment, was appointed as the Secretary General to the Conference for the next two years. Tehran had previously hosted the 17th APPCED in 2014.

While signing the final resolution of the 18th APPCED which included a condemnation of the adverse effects of the wars in Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Palestine on the environment, Tabesh expressed hope that the organization would succeed in implementing development plans, preventing the destruction of environment, and providing better environmental conditions for human beings.

The Iranian delegation in Seoul met with Vice-Speaker to National Assembly of South Korea, Shim Jae-chul. During the meeting, Tabesh stressed the significance of developing bilateral relations in financial and banking sectors, particularly in the wake of the nuclear deal and the removal of anti-Iranian sanctions.

He also expressed hope that South Korea would be able to play a more effective role in the implementation of environmental projects.

“Joint production with South Korea in the fields of automotive and house appliances will bring about many benefits for both countries,” he said.

The Korean official, for his part, voiced hope that the visit of Iranian Parliament Speaker Al Larijani to Seoul would take place in the near future, stressing that Iran-South Korea’s ties are expanding in all areas of mutual interest.

The Asia-Pacific Parliamentarians Conference on Environment and Development (APPCED) was established on June 1993 in South Korea as a regional Parliamentarians Conference dedicated to environmental issues.
