BUSHEHR, Nov. 19 (Press Shia Agency) – Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said Sat. Iran has signed a 70-million-euro contract with several foreign companies for executing the ‘GMP’ project on production of radiopharmaceuticals.
Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, told reporters on Saturday in Bushehr that the execution of ‘GMP’ (Good Manufacturing Practice) project will be funded by National Development Fund and will be completed within three years.
“By executing the GMP project, we will be able to produce and export radiopharmaceuticals to other countries,” he added.
He went on to add, “at the moment, one million patients in Iran use radiopharmaceutical services, and the production of radiodrugs is on a rising trend.”
Salehi stressed that utilizing nuclear technology capacities is one of the key priorities of the Atomic Energy Organization, saying “producing vaccines and radiopharmaceutical is one of the main programs of the AEOI and we have achieved remarkable progress in this field thanks to the expertise of our own experts.”
“We have also begun the production of pesticides for agricultural pest control, and some good measures have been taken for producing more resistant seeds,” he added. “We have also made good achievements in fighting locust been moths through the use of nuclear technology.”
The nuclear chief then referred to the construction of three nuclear emergency departments in the country, saying the one in Isfahan has been set up while the two others in Bushehr and Arak are in the execution phase.
According to Salehi, the nuclear emergency department in Bushehr will be built on an 8,000 square meter area, and is expected to make a fundamental change in the field of health and treatment in the province.
