TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Saudi Arabia's ministry of foreign affairs said there is "no truth" to reports of an upcoming visit to Iraq by its crown prince Mohammed bin Salman after thousands of Iraqis gathered in Baghdad to protest his planned visit.

The Saudi foreign ministry statement added that "the two brotherly countries" had witnessed "positive developments… recently in all fields,” AP reported.

The statement came after protesters gathered Friday afternoon following midday prayers, some carrying signs calling him a war criminal, blaming the kingdom for crimes committed by the Daesh terror group in Iraq.

Iraq's prime minister's office had previously stated that the crown prince was planning to visit Iraq in the near future, but a date had not yet been set.
