TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iran’s Defense Minister called for the enhancement of military cooperation with Pakistan, saying close interaction between the two neighbors would contribute to regional peace and stability.

In a meeting with his Pakistani counterpart in Moscow, Brigadier General Amir Hatami called for closer military and defense cooperation with Pakistan, which he said has an outstanding position in Iran’s foreign policy agenda.

Pointing to reciprocal visits by the military officials of the two Muslim neighbors, the Iranian official expressed the hope that military interaction between Tehran and Islamabad would strengthen regional peace and stability.

He also stressed the need for joint action by regional countries to prevent the US from carrying out its hostile plots that “only cause insecurity, instability and chaos”.

For his part, Pakistani Defense Minister Khurram Dastgir Khan hailed the growing defense ties with Iran in recent years, particularly in border security.

Considering the current security status in West Asia, there is need for more dialogue between the two brotherly nations of Iran and Pakistan need to settle the problems, Dastgir Khan added.

The Iranian and Pakistani defense ministers are among scores of foreign officials and delegations attending the 7th Moscow Conference on International Security (MCIS) in the Russian capital.
