TEHRAN (Press Shia) – The Bahraini regime, in yet another move to silence voices of dissent, sentenced six more nationals to life imprisonment on charges of targeting police forces, local reports said.

A Bahraini court sentenced the six individuals on Wednesday for allegedly having a hand in a bombing attack against security forces near the entrance to the town of Maameer, southeast of Manama, in May last year.

The six had already been convicted of planting the bomb, Bahrain’s public prosecution office said on its official Instagram page on Wednesday. The device had been disabled before it could explode, it said.

The Al Khalifa regime has sentenced scores of Bahraini people to life in jail allegedly for terrorism and violence against security forces.

Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.

Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.

Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.
