TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the legislative body is considering a plan to firmly respond to US moves that constitute breaches of a nuclear deal between Tehran and world powers.
Speaking to reporters in the western city of Boroujerd on Thursday, Boroujerdi denounced Washington’s recent moves in breach of the July 2015 nuclear deal between the Islamic Republic and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The lawmaker said that given numerous violations of the JCPOA by the US, including a possible renewal of anti-Iran sanctions for another 10 years, the Iranian parliament is considering the plan to properly respond to the US moves.
The comments came after US lawmakers passed a bill on November 15, renewing sanctions on Iran for 10 years. The US House of Representatives voted 419 to one for a 10-year reauthorization of the Iran Sanctions Act, or ISA, a law first adopted in 1996 to punish investments in Iran’s energy industry.
Boroujerdi further emphasized that among the six countries that signed the JCPOA with Iran, the US is the one that has practically violated the deal and failed to fulfill its undertakings.
While the JCPOA, a 159-page nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 came into force in January, some Iranian officials complain about the US failure to fully implement the accord.
In an address to a gathering of Basij forces in Tehran on Wednesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei made it clear that implementation of the bill that the US lawmakers have passed recently to extend sanctions on Iran for 10 more years will translate into breach of the JCPOA.
“If such extension (of anti-Iran sanctions) is implemented and comes into force (in the US), it will be definitely a violation of the JCPOA,” the Leader said.
“They (Americans) should know that the Islamic Republic of Iran will certainly show reaction to it.”
