TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Syria’s army, backed by volunteer forces, continued to make gains in its fight against Takfiri terrorists across the Arab country, inflicting material losses and casualties on them.

On Thursday, the army troops launched an attack against Takfiri militants in the country's southwestern city of Daraa, killing and injuring large groups of them, Syria’s SANA official website reported.

A number of their vehicles were also destroyed in the clashes.

Separately, the Syrian forces inflicted major losses on  terrorists in Harasta, east of the Syrian capital of Damascus, after uncovering a 250-meter-long tunnel and blowing it up.

Additionally, Syrian warplanes hit the gathering centers of the extremists in the areas of Morek, Tal Skeik, near Ma’an, Atshan, Tal al-Sawan and al-Bowayda in Hama countryside.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.

According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
