TEHRAN, Apr. 22 (Press Shia Agency) – Iranian police announced that the Tehran’s former Prosecutor General Saeed Mortazavi who had been not found since last month was arrested in northern Iran early on Sunday and will be handed to prison in the afternoon.
Iranian police announced on Sunday that it managed to arrest the former Prosecutor General of Tehran Saeed Mortazavi, who faces a two-year prison sentence over the death of prisoners following 2009 presidential election.
According to police announcement, the convict was found in a villa in northern Iranian province of Mazandaran, near the Caspian Sea.
Mortazavi was officially sentenced on February 28 to two years in prison for his role in the deaths of inmates kept in the Kahrizak detention center, but since last month the law enforcement agents were unable to find him to hand him to prison.
“They could not find him despite the arrest warrant,” Iranian Judiciary’s Spokesperson Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei said in last week while addressing university student in Iranian northeastern city of Mashhad.
