Press Shia – The head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq emphasized, “The people of Iraq will fight anyone who even thinks about plotting against this nation.”

Press Shia Agency – Hujjat al-Islam Humam Hamoudi, the chairman of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq, said, “Iraq is a powerful country and will definitely fight anyone who even thinks about plotting against this nation’s security and stability.”

“Iraqi Kurds have clearly realized that they cannot run a country on their own and decided to return to Iraq. The highest national interest in Iraq was the unification of all tribes and religious groups against Daesh,” the vice-president of the Iraqi parliament added.

“We are not against the candidacy of Iraqi Prime Minister Haydar al-Abadi in the election, but I must say that one of the great challenges Iraq is facing today can only be resolved with determination. We do not want to form a weak government,” Hujjat al-Islam al-Hamoudi said.

On Friday, Iraq’s prominent Shi’ah cleric Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani urged eligible voters in the war-torn Arab country not to cast their ballots in favour of “corrupt” lawmakers during the national elections which will be held on May 12.

In his Friday sermon, Hujjat al-Islam Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbala’i, the representative of Ayatollah al-Sistani, said on his behalf in the holy city of Karbala that the Iraqi people must not re-elect candidates from among parliamentarians and officials who have proved to be “corrupt and failures.”

Ayatollah al-Sistani further noted that participation in the forthcoming elections is the right of every Iraqi citizen who meets the legal requirements.
