TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban on his reelection, hoping for serious and substantial steps for closer ties between Tehran and Budapest.

“Regarding the complicated conditions of the global community, in which we are witnessing dangerous, illegal and unilateral actions against international rules and regulations, I would like to announce that efforts and actions of independent countries like Hungary can encourage observing international obligations and regulations,” Rouhani said in a congratulatory message to Orban on Tuesday, as reported by his official website.

“I hope that in light of their common political will, Iran and Hungary can take serious, fundamental steps to deepen and cement bilateral relations and promote international peace and security,” the president added.

Viktor Orban claimed a landslide victory in general election on April 8.

The 54-year-old is serving a third consecutive term in office.
