TEHRAN, Dec. 03 (Press Shia) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has stressed the need for continuation of close consultation and cooperation with Russia in combating terrorism in the region.
“The good cooperation between Tehran and Moscow will continue until the ultimate goal of eradicating terrorism and restoring peace and full security to the region is achieved,” Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said in a meeting with Russia’s special envoy on Syria Alexander Lavrentiev in Tehran on Saturday.
Rouhani went on to underscore that the Syrian situation would be solved only through political dialogs and with full respect to the will of the Syrian people who are the main and ultimate decision makers on the future of their country.
The President then referred to the nuclear deal as the product of efforts by seven countries aimed for global peace and security, adding “all must endeavor to safeguard the achievements of the deal and no country should be allowed to take a measure to undermine the agreement based on its own interests.”
“Iran has and will continue to be committed to its international agreements under the nuclear deal and other parties to the deal need to comply by their own commitments for the perseverance of the JCPOA,” Rouhani stressed.
Lavrentiev, for his part, presented Rouhani with President Putin’s remarks and a report on the latest consultations and field developments in Syria.
He maintained that Putin holds the trust between Iranian and Russian governments and nations in high regard, and called for expansion of Tehran-Moscow cooperation on regional and international issues.
“Russia’s position on the JCPOA is a fixed and firm position and there is nothing that can undermine it,” he stressed.
