TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Syria’s army, backed by volunteer forces, continued to make gains in its fight against Takfiri terrorists in the embattled northwestern city of Aleppo, retaking two areas from the grip of the militants after killing large groups of them.
On Sunday, Syrian troops inflicted major losses on the terrorists in eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo and managed to wrest control of the areas of al-Jazmati and al-Halwania, according to the official SANA news agency.
Large groups of the Takfiri militants lost their lives during the clashes.
The Syrian government forces, who are in full control of western Aleppo, have been conducting operations to purge militants from the city’s east.
Separately, Syrian soldiers launched an offensive against Takfiri groups’ positions in the southwestern province of Dara'a and killed scores of them in the districts of al-Sad and al-Arbain.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with various terrorist groups, including Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL), currently controlling parts of it.
According to a report by the Syrian Center for Policy Research, the conflict has claimed the lives of over 470,000 people, injured 1.9 million others, and displaced nearly half of the country’s pre-war population of about 23 million within or beyond its borders.
