TEHRAN (Press Shia Agency) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ security squad highlighted the measures the IRGC has taken to protect Iranian authorities from bioterrorism attacks, saying his department is offering training courses and has developed homegrown equipment for that purpose.
In an interview with Press Shia Agency, General Ali Nasiri said the IRGC is duty bound to combat any kind of threats and prepare the necessary facilities and training programs, including plans to counter bioterrorism, which he described as a new threat with different shapes.
As regards the plans to guard Iranian authorities and scientists against bioterrorism attacks, the general said his department has already prepared the necessary training programs and equipment, much of which, he said, is home-grown.
Stressing the need for updated capabilities to deal with bioterrorism threats, General Nasiri said his forces have received the necessary training, while experts in this field have also been recruited.
In July 2016, Head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali called for measures to ward off bioterrorist attacks and protect senior Iranian officials from falling victim to such plots.
Warning against “biological weapons” that may target the officials, the commander cautioned that such hostile tactics could be widely employed and trigger a biological war in future.
