TEHRAN (Press Shia) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said ambassadors and diplomats dispatched to foreign countries plan to attend a gathering in Tehran in coming days to discuss ways to boost the Islamic Republic’s relations with other nations.

The first seminar of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions abroad is planned to open in coming days after a meeting between them and Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khameneil, also to be attended by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and other Foreign Ministry officials, Qassemi said on Wednesday.

Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani will also deliver speeches at the seminar, he added.

“Reviewing the latest regional and international developments and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s approach to these developments within the framework of the ‘purposeful expansion of diplomacy and foreign relations’ are among the main topics of the seminar,” the spokesman said.

In addition to working groups designed to hold specialized meetings, the seminar includes meetings attended by several cabinet ministers and other officials of the country, he added.

The gathering would come several days after senior officials and ambassadors from over 100 countries participated in a meeting in Tehran on Monday to discuss the problems created for trade with Iran following the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the JCPOA, which was achieved in Vienna in 2015 after years of negotiations among Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France, and Germany).

Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord.
